Shepton Mallet Ramblings Exhibited

Andrew Sheldon

My family lived in Shepton from before my birth till the mid 1990s. I have taken an interest in the history of the town since my consciousness began (over fifty years ago), and continue to do so. My aim for this website is to exhibit some of my notes and so on in the hope that they may be of interest to others and encourage people to email me with odd recollections, reminiscences, photographs, and so on.

Why srx? Quite simple: I already own the domain! Please let me know if you can think of a better title than “Shepton Mallet Ramblings Exhibited”.

Exhibit 1: Draycott numbering.

Draycott is one of the oldest parts in the town. It has some interesting buildings, and lost many others during the 1960s. The house numbering has a logic of its own: simple when you know it.

Exhibit 2: Old wallpaper from a house in Shepton: part 1.

Renovation work during the 1960s and 1970s revealed some scraps of very old wallpaper. Forty or so years later, the technology exists to record these and share them with others. I would be interested to know more about these wallpapers, and of any similar finds.

Exhibit 3: Old wallpaper from a house in Shepton: part 2.

Similar to Exhibit 2, but a different room.
